Wine - Wine really is a good gift for any occasion. For a \"kitchen theme\" shower, its especially appropriate since its also used for cooking. The saying is that you shouldnt cook with any wine you wouldnt drink, so give a good quality. If for some reason wine is not appropriate for the bride/groom, a nice set of quality vinegar could be substituted.
Another idea for bridal gifts is to give purses or handbags. Many brides are opting to have their girls carry handbags down the aisle instead of bouquets of flowers. This gives the ceremony a more modern look and it saves money. It also avoids having bunches of flowers that do not last past the big day. Handbags can coordinate with the bridesmaids gowns and it gives the girls an easy way to carry tissues, lipstick and other items they may want to have with them during the wedding. If you are more traditional and you want to stick with flowers, consider giving handbags as the gift that the girls can use at the reception for their belongings or even use after the wedding.
Towels and Stuff - Unless you know the color scheme of the kitchen, Id stick to neutrals. Since most appliances are either black or white, these two \"colors\" look really crisp in any kitchen. You cant go wrong with beige or tan though. Along with the towels and oven mitts, a standing paper towel holder could also be included.
